Luckily I didn't wait to play the game "count the pins" after I got the tranny off. So no surprises for me here. Transmissions made before 09/88 have an electrical control unit inside the box that is controlled via 8-pins. Transmissions after that have a control unit with 7-pins.

Hey guys,
I have a 1989 E34 535i (m30b34 with 4hp22) at the mechanics at the moment, swapping in a replacement transmission.
Trouble is the replacement is from a 1991 535i which has the newer 8 pin connector. They're asking for another transmission, but I've read you can just use the newer EGS computer and switch (snow/econ/sport). Has anyone done this, and is it fairly stress free or is it drama-packed?
I just don't want to buy yet another transmission, and can't afford a rebuild on the old one.
So, final question, how do I put an 8 pin transmission in a 7 pin car?
Ich achte wenn ich ein Getriebewechsel weniger auf das Bj. sondern
einzig allein auf die Pinbelegung 7 auf 7, ode 8 auf 8, denn einzig
das ist nur relevant!!!!!!
Teste dennoch erst den Bodwenzug.
Du kannst Ihn auch bevor du einen neuen kaufst bzw.
das Getriebe ausbaust erst nachstellen.
Das ist 5 min. Aufwand gegen 1 Tag Lammelenwechsel!!!!
Ich hatte genau den selben Fall an meinem fuffie und es war der
Bodwenzug.
