I assume there is a difference in gears. The 4HP22/24 is used in many cars, such as the E30, E34, E32, E31 series. Depending on the model the lever of the gear change is either on the left or on the right side. The shaft however goes thru the complete transmission and you could install the lever on the other side.
Maybe the small brackets you have to change, but that even has to be done by us on the same car when installing a new transmission. Can be used from the old one.
BUT, now I have checked the realoem, and selected as example a 750iL 01/1990 and this pops up
