My trunk is totally closed
Dear E32 friends,
Now I seems to have a quite unplesant problem. I can't open the trunk of my E32.
The central locks works good for all doors
If I put the key in the trunk cylinder all my central works good, but if I push the knob on the cylinder on the trunk it want open.
There seems to be no dirt in the cylinder.
What can I do

try some of these
-Lock again and unlock
-push the lid down and then try to unlock
-if all that does not help, best way is to remove the center console in the rear, behind that is the perforated plate for the skibag, use a rubber hammer and hit it with some heavy blows, it goes out easy.
Then prepare a long stick with a hook, pull the carpet panel away at the rear of the trunk (the one which is at the end and where the car jack is located). Then you see with a flashlight the locking system. There is something which look like this

proceed as Gale shows it there

I had fun with a dirty trunk cylinder on my first E32 many years ago. This led to a key being stuck in the cylinder, but opening worked fine. I do not know how the dealership repaired it...they did not replace it and it worked fine afterwards.
Do you have the nice feature of a trunk lid puller device ("Softclose") on your car? That one may have gone crazy.
Maybe a good bang against the plate holder area releases something that got stuck, as the lock is mounted there that may give it a pleasing shake.
Regards
Michael

Dear Erich,
I did solve this just a minute ago
It was just enough for me to push the lid down and try a few times, thank you very much.
McTube,
Thank you for the comment, my car has not the softclose feature, but that is really nice feature.
On my previous E32 (an M30 car) the cylinder was always stuck, but wroked with the central so I got in.
Now I just have to enjoy the spring here in Iceland, it just came here this week

congratulations, so you do not invite me to Iceland to solve the problem?
But there must be a reason that it was so difficult. Maybe the lock went out of position? Lose bolts or nuts? Make sure that all screws are tightened, especially the one on the left http://www.nmia.com/~dgnrg/trunk_latch.jpg

You are welkome to Iceland, we have a small BMW club here in Iceland called:
BMWKraftur but we are quite few, so for most problems I have not heard of there at home I loot at this site, that is the best info site for 7-liner BMW.
But we would be happy to show you and other members of 7er.com around, and now it is also very cheap to travel to Iceland, due to the financial crises.
I took a short look at the bolts earlier this evening and did at first not see anything wrong, I'll though have to convince me 100% for the reliability of the mechanism.
