I am from California and want to buy a 1986 745i Highline model and export it back here to San Francisco.

Where can i find this car?

I have been checking ScoutAuto.de and Mobile.de for awhile and they have an E23 745i Executive or two in ok condition but its that elusive Highline E23 i am looking for.

Question: There was and E23 sold here in the states for 2 years 1986 and 1987, that was given the model variant " L7 "


Could the L7 be the Highline without the turbo?

Exactly, the L7 was a 735i. The L7 had almost full options and the 745i Highline could be ordered w/o heated seats, cruise control etc., so make sure you get one that's loaded.

BTW: You could ask Marco (user fish in this forum) if he wants to sell his 745i Highline (fairly unlikely)

Are you going to travel all the way to Germany to get the car if you find one? Or are you going to settle the deal from the U.S.?

The L7 is an E23 US version which is almost identically with the Highline interior. The E23 Turbo (745i) was never available at the US market.

The Executive and Highline versions were available at the European and Japanese market as 735i (without turbo, comparably to the L7) and as 745i (with turbo). The 745i was built only as left-hand-drive car, therefore the turbo was not available in Great Britain.

The L7 is a very nice car, but very slow compared to my E23 turbo ;-)


Ich Reise nach Freistaat Bayern und München every year for work, so if i could find a Highline in ausgezeignet condition i will take it home to Northern California. If that black car belongs to Marcus, he would be crazy to sell it !

Where is this "Germany' you speak of? Is this "Germany" a place that is near Bavaria?

Honestly, the best city in Germany i have visited has been Hamburg. Probably because my home city (SFO) is also a major international shipping center, so i felt instantly at home in Hamburg. In Munich just go down to the waterfront and smell the salt in the air like can in good old HH.....and MUC is not a REAL city......more like a big village with Umpa Lumpa's.

Stoiber ein ********* er ist ! Building the TransRapid from the Flughafen to HBF is an idiotic idea and a complete waste of money!
