Strange thing

My friend told me that I could make some tricks with my 750i. See if you understand what I mean here and tell me what it´s for:

First, push the button to the right between the "drehzahlmesser (rpm)" and the water-temp-meter. After that you keep that button in and at the same time you switch on the key to position 2 (not so the engine start) and then after the 5 seconds you can lett go of the button. Then you see alot of information, for exampel "Fahrzeugnummer" last numbers. What is all these information for?

Hi Schnitzer,

It's simply the gauge-testing-routine of the instrument cluster.
Once started as you decribed it, you could lean back and watch...
But you are not able to do any adjustments!

If You want to change the language on the instrument cluster display You have to insert the key and turn it one step. After pressing and holding the right button on the instrument cluster for about 10 seconds the OBC will tell you what language it now has switched to. To reache the language you want just press the button again.

This is afak the only adjustment that can made to the OBC.

Chaabo: Ok! You know that a number comes up when I make that trick. "Fahrzeugnummer" DC....., you know? If that number is 00000, what is that? My friend has that? Is it possible that the car has a lower "kilometerstand" then what it should be? Or maybe some card in the kombi-instrument can have been changed out? What do you think?

Hi Schnitzer,

There are no "cards" in the cluster that could have been changed.
While proceeding the test-routine the correct FIN (Fahrgestellnumer) of the car should come up!
Otherwise the code-plug (Codestecker) must have been changed. It is quite easy to check:

- Disconnect the battery
- Remove the two philips screws in the top of the instrument cluster
- Pull the cluster out
- Eyeballing

Now you should see that:

If the code-plug had been changed (or simply pulled out and reinstalled (for what ever reason)) the plastic-sealing is broken/missing! Now it's time to get suspicious!

The code-plug changing procedure is as follows:

Chaabo: Ok! But if the Fahrgestellnumer = DC..... is right (comparing with the "Fahrzeugbrief"), can I then be 100% sure that my car has the right "kilometerstand"?

Only if the seal, fixing the code-plug is NOT broken.
It is possible to change data on the original code-plug!
Therefore it has to be removed (breaking the seal).

Normaly, if there are a red dot before the shown Kilometres the km-Stand is manipulated.

If there no red dot bevore it and the Code from the Car is the same as the code in the papers and the backside ... look at Chabos Message .. ist OK, the shown Kilometres are realy shure.

But if someone destoyed the connction between spoodometer and Hinterachse the speedometer and the Kilometerzähler are not going.
Then they says: The car stand still. .. everytime.. but it drive ...but who will drive without speedometer??
