Die Holzleiste ist die am Handschuhfach, nicht von der Tuer. Die soll laut dem "Erfinder" Erwin (fast) genau passen.
Beschreibung von ihm:
Make your own
Remove all the phone mounting hardware.
Line the inside of the cavity with felt.
You can extend the felt all the way back to the rear of the console, which makes for a sort of "hidden" compartment.
Find another piece of wood dash trim, the one that is above the glove box, in a junkyard or on eBay.
Cut the right end of the trim to fit the opening in the console. The width is perfect for this purpose. The right end of the trim will go to the front of the opening, and the cut end at the rear. Make the cut at an angle for a perfect fit.
Make a thingy to hold up the front of the trim. Screw it to the front wall of the opening, using the screw that's already there. I used some hard rubber I had laying around, cut to a point at the top left. The rear of the trim will be held up by a snug fit to the console.
Figure out a way to hinge it. I used the same felt as the lining. I cut the material wide enough to (starting next to the driver's seat):
go down the side of the opening, across the bottom, up the other side, and back across the top. I glued the felt to the walls and the trim, except for about 2 inches from the top of the right wall (to give it room to move when I open the cover).
This "hinge" is not entirely satisfactory. It won't let the lid open all the way. If anyone has better ideas, please share.
I also made a little handle thingy out of metal to help open the lid. I glued it in between the trim and the felt at the left rear. Since I used an old wiring harness holder, the exposed end was already coated, but you can probably do something similar with epoxy.
I also glued some plastic gizmos I had laying around to the inside of the trim lid, that were perfect for holding my sunglasses. Now they're easily accessible and protected.
This storage compartment is very handy, and much more useful than a dead phone.
